I think Dr. Carroll put it best why trauma can be so much fun for interns. All you have – have not should – do is hustle and absorb. Take it all in and try to learn and hold on to much as you can. You don’t have to worry about the big picture (yet). Right now, all you have to do is the smallest thing well. The one thing. All you have to do is throw in a foley. Or type in the right order. Or get some blankets. Or shear off the jeans.
You don’t have to worry about life or death or disability. You don’t have to worry about sending someone home or watching them a little big longer. You don’t have to worry about how you can keep them from coming back with another injury, maybe one you won’t be able to fix. You don’t have to worry about how far is too far to save someone who used to save others.
All you have to focus on is the pennies. It all makes cents.
